Position Title: Software Team Manager – Global Software Group

Developers and QA Analyst work as members of self-organizing Scrum delivery teams, delivering enhanced capabilities in accordance with business priorities set by our Product Management team. In this context, the role of a Software Team Manager is to:

Support and develop your team members so they are positive, effective contributors to their team and the wider business
Ensure successful product releases and enhancements with high quality by engaging team members, remove obstacles, grow knowledge and increase efficiency
Work with Product Management to agree the product strategy for the products your team members work on
Work with colleagues both in the UK and overseas to constantly improve our engineering and organization practices, so we better meet the evolving needs of the business.
Responsibilities:
Ensuring team members are engaged and effective in their roles – supporting and empowering them, not directing or micro-managing
Full line management of team members, including providing ongoing feedback and participating in the company’s performance appraisal process
Helping team members to build and implement their personal development plan, including coaching them and finding additional opportunities where these are needed
Work as part of the management team to ensure we get the most from team members and our skills and abilities grow to meet the changing requirements of the business
Co-ordinating the efforts of staff to improve our engineering practices, enabling us to improve the pace at which we deliver quality software
Taking responsibility for strategic projects to improve the effectiveness of the department and Global Product Development more generally
Work with colleagues in Global Product Development, Global Product Management and the regional businesses to identify business and market opportunities; research, propose and evaluate solutions; and support their implementation and delivery to clients
Build relations around the business globally, helping ensure alignment of purpose, effective communication and strong working relationships
Lead the recruitment process, creating job specifications, working with our Recruitment team, conducting interviews and providing feedback for candidates
Facilitate and drive performance management processes
Requirements:
Proven experience of leading, coaching and mentoring people to successful performance – must be people-focused and enjoy helping people realize their potential, individually and collectively
A strong proven track record of achievement in the IT industry, including software design and technical project leadership
Significant software development experience, ideally in Java
Experience and appreciation of agile software development processes and techniques, ideally Scrum
Track record of helping software development teams become more effective, including through improving engineering practices
Keen attention to detail and strong problem solving skills, coupled with an enquiring mind and the ability to learn quickly
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Great inter-personal skills – able to build rapport and work with staff at all levels, including senior executives, as well as directly with clients if required
Strong organization skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage your own and others’ time in response to changing priorities
Highly self-motivated and directed: able to be pro-active, work under pressure and to deadlines
Ability to drive innovation and change across teams through collaborative working and effective influencing skills
